In memory of Clive Robertson
Clive Robertson, who until recently was the Director of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism Network of the Higher Education Academy at Oxford Brookes University passed away unexpectedly on March 30th.
Clive had enjoyed a long and successful career in higher education, and enjoyed an excellent reputation as an academic leader and innovator. Until recently, he was Director of the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism Network of the Higher Education Academy, a position he had held since the Subject Centre's inception in 2000, and was also Director of its Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance Network from 2008. He was Head of Student Learning Experience at Oxford Brookes University and prior to that Head of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. Earlier, he had served as Dean and as Head of Quality Assurance in the university's Business Faculty.
He was an active contributor to a range of developments in higher education, particularly credit accumulation and transfer and work-based learning and its accreditation. He was a member of the Boards of Progress South Central, the Lifelong Learning Network for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey, and the Open College Network South East Region. He was a trustee of the Learning from Experience Trust, becoming its Director in 2011. He was an honorary fellow and former chair of the UK Council for Hospitality Management Education. Recently, Clive was a member of HEFCE's KIS Expert Group and he has worked with QAA in reviewing its Code of Practice, developing Subject Benchmarks and defining "contact hours". He had extensive experience as an external examiner and external advisor at home and abroad.
Clive joined Oxford Polytechnic in 1980 from Bournemouth College and retired from Oxford Brookes in August 2011. Since retiring Clive had maintained his links with the hospitality and academic world by acting as a consultant on a number of projects.
