Tribute to Brian Lloyd

Honorary fellowship

Year conferred: 1991

Brian Lloyd was made an honorary fellow in 1991.

Brian came to Oxford Polytechnic as Director when it achieved polytechnic status in 1970 and remained in the role for ten years. A graduate of Balliol College, Oxford, he also spent many years at Magdalen College, where he became a fellow in 1948 and subsequently held the positions of Senior Tutor and Vice-President, before being given an emeritus fellowship in 1970.

A biochemist and physiologist, Brian began his career in the early 1940s - when he also registered as a conscientious objector - working first for Oxford Nutrition Survey; similar work in Holland and then with the Laboratory of Human Nutrition followed, and during the 1960s he spent a period as a visiting physiologist in New York.

Brian sadly died in July 2010.
