Tony Lewis

Tony Lewis

Dr Tony Lewis sadly died in March 2020.

Many Oxford Brookes colleagues will have worked with Tony and known him personally during his time as a much valued lecturer of quantitative research methods within Oxford Brookes Business School. He was also well known as one of mathematicians who changed the game of cricket through the statistical method he co-devised with Dr Frank Duckworth. The Duckworth-Lewis Method, introduced in 1997, is used to determine the outcome of rain affected cricket matches.

Professor Alistair Fitt, Vice-Chancellor commented: "Tony was a lovely man who was always extremely modest about the Duckworth-Lewis system. He always described it as "just a bit of basic maths really", but its universal adoption throughout all of cricket shows the value of his contribution."
