Golden Reunion for Planning Alumni

July 2019

Class of 1984 reunion

In September 1969 one of the first cohorts of undergraduate planning students started their course at the then Oxford College of Technology. At the same time John Glasson started his lecturing career – fresh from planning practice in troubled Northern Ireland.

Fifty years on, it was a great pleasure for most of those early Oxford planning education pioneers to meet up again for a Golden Reunion event. After a lunch together, John showed the now mostly retired ex-planning practitioners around the Headington Gipsy Lane Campus. There was amazement at the high quality of the greatly rebuilt campus – ‘not like it was in our day’ -- although there was recognition of some parts of the Abercrombie Building, especially the stairs climbed many times throughout undergraduate careers!

After the Oxford Brookes University visit, the reunion took itself down into Oxford to visit old haunts, but not before planning to revisit in a few more years – to celebrate 50 years on from the completion of their course.
