What made you choose Brookes as a place to study?

Oxford as a city seemed like a fantastic place to live and study with its rich academic history. The appeal of Brookes was the modular course and the fact I could choose my topics to study, though this proved to be limited. Also, having exams every term which would keep me from partying for three years and failing when taking final exams.

What is your best memory of your time at Oxford Brookes?

Living in a student house for the first time.

After graduating from Brookes what were the next steps for your career?

My first job was at the BBC in Manchester as Manager of the Personnel Records Department.

What was your inspiration to move into your current profession?

I have always been fascinated by people and the challenge of understanding them; being able to encourage and support them to be successful in their objectives.

What success stories/achievements have you had in your role?

I have had numerous successes in setting up TV companies but my favourite was the creation of European Business News for Dow Jones which later merged with CNBC.

What is the best advice someone has given you?

Treat everyone with the greatest respect because your career paths are likely to cross again.

What advice would you give to others?

You spend much of your lifetime working so take your time to try different jobs to be sure you find one you enjoy. Personal happiness is more important than a big salary.
