What made you choose Brookes as a place to study?

I wanted to work in the real estate industry and Oxford Brookes was the best place to study. I subsequently realised Real Estate was boring as hell! But it didn’t detract from a great experience at Brookes.

What was your inspiration to move into your current profession?

I hated working for a big corporate organisation and knew I had to get out and set up my own business. Once I worked that out, it was just a matter of finding the right idea.

What is the best advice someone has given you?

You spend more time at work than you do with your family, so for god’s sake make sure you enjoy what you do.

What advice would you give to other

Never settle, if you’re not being stimulated by your work get out and do something else. Find your passion. Work should not be seen as a necessary evil.

After graduating from Brookes what were the next steps for your career?

I joined a large corporate real estate company called CBRE - I worked there for three years. I then joined a bank for three years. My overriding emotion during this time was that of boredom. I then set up HotelFlex.

What success stories/achievements have you had in your role?

Setting up HotelFlex from scratch. We now have employees working for us all around the world, work with some of the largest hotel chains and have attracted significant investment from some of the largest venture capitalists in Silicon Valley.

What is your best memory of your time in Oxford?

May Day! Each and every year.
